Kathryn Van Deusen Hatfield, a founding member of Bauch Zucker Hatfield LLC in Springfield, New Jersey, limits her practice to the representation of management in labor and employment law matters.
Ms. Hatfield’s practice focuses on representing private and public sector employers in all aspects of labor and employment law. Ms. Hatfield’s expertise in employment law includes litigating State and Federal cases on behalf of employers involving Title VII, the ADA, the ADEA and the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination, providing legal opinions and advice on personnel, employment and labor issues involving, but not limited to, Title VII, the ADA, the ADEA, OSHA compliance, the Fair Labor Standards Act, ERISA, the National Labor Relations Act, the Davis Bacon Act, the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination, CEPA, Wage and Hour and the Prevailing Wage Act and preparing personnel handbooks and policies involving issues such as drug and alcohol testing, absenteeism and leave of absence.
Ms. Hatfield’s labor law experience includes negotiating collective bargaining agreements, conducting grievance and interest arbitration hearings, handling and litigating certification, impasse and unfair practice proceedings before the National Labor Relations Board and the New Jersey Public Employment Relations Commission, analyzing legislation, court and arbitration decisions and collective bargaining agreements to assess trends in labor relations matters, preparing, administering and analyzing salary and benefit surveys for negotiations.
Ms. Hatfield lectures frequently on employment related issues, including family and medical leave, workplace harassment, wage and hour compliance, effective hiring and retention, drafting Employee Handbooks, and workplace anti-discrimination laws.
Ms. Hatfield was recognized in 2006 and 2007 by New Jersey Monthly magazine as one of New Jersey’s “Rising Star Super Lawyers”.*
Prior to co-founding Bauch Zucker Hatfield LLC, Ms. Hatfield was a partner in Schenck, Price, Smith & King, LLP, a 75-attorney general practice law firm in Morristown, New Jersey from 2003-2008, practicing labor and employment law on behalf of management.
Ms. Hatfield is involved in a number of activities outside the practice of law. She is the Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees for ECLC of New Jersey, a special education school in Chatham, New Jersey. Ms. Hatfield also is a member of the Board of Trustees for Far Brook School, a private independent school in Short Hills, New Jersey. Ms. Hatfield lives in Maplewood, New Jersey with her husband and three children.
